note: Aircraft Republic THUNDERBOLT type P-47D-11RE nicknamed “Itsy Bitsy” #42-75435, took off from its base at Mourmelon-le-Grand, France, for a ground support mission, dropping napalm bombs. During this mission the plane of 2 Lt Leo J Didas was hit by FLAK and was loosing altituted. Ther was a large hole in the middle of the right wing and the left aileron was loose and damaged. The plane crashed nose first, exploded and burned on impact. Unfortunatly Lt Didas was not able to bail out.
