note: Aircraft Republic THUNDERBOLT type P-47D-28RE, #44-19570, took off from its base at Mourmelon-le-Grand, France, for a ground support mission. After observing a German Tank, Half-track and Ack Ack position (anti-aircraft arms), 1 Lt Nellis attacked them by firing 4 shot bursts, scored hits and than crashed into woods alongside of a road near Winseler, Luxembourg.
One believed that due to the haze and and low visibility, Lt Nellis misjudged the ground clearance.
