His story: Pvt Robert Dixon was of African-American origin.
His battery was occupying postions near Schönberg, Sankt-Vith on December 17,1944 when they were overrun by German infantry. Pvt Dixon was reported as having died of wounds after having been carried to a log hut used as a kitchen. When the surviving members of the unit were captured, the remains of Pvt Dixon were last seen lying in this hut.
In July-August 1951 an investigation was conducted in the vicinity of Herresbach, Amel and Schönberg, Sankt-Vith to recover his remains, without any result. Therefore, according to official procedures, he was declared dead at the official date of 18 December 1945.
