note: Aircraft Republic THUNDERBOLT type P-47D-28RE, #42-28958, took off from its base at Mourmelon-le-Grand, France, for a ground support mission. During the look for enemy vehicles and troops in the vicinity of Salle, Belgium the squadron received a verry intense barrage of light FLAK. The plane was hit, bursted into flames and dived into the ground. 1 Lt Myron A Stone managed to bail out with his parachute and drifted and lodged into trees near a clearing in the vicinity of Troimont where enemy troops were on the roads.
1Lt Stone was taken POW and is recorded DOW on January 5, 1945 in a prison hospital in Germany.
