His story: Aircraft Republic THUNDERBOLT type P-47D-28-RA #42-28866, took off from base Culot, Belgium on January 5, 1945 for a strafing and dive bombing mission. After a strafing past on motor vehicles and transports near Vielsalm, Belgium, his plane was hit. His last call over the radio was that his manifold pressure was low an that his plan has no power.
At first Lt Schultis was reported as MIA. Afterwards as POW imprisoned in Stalag Luft III Sagan-Silesia Bavaria 49-11, Germany.
