His story: Aircraft Republic THUNDERBOLT type P-47D-28-RA #42-29271, took off from base Culot, Belgium on January 5, 1945 for a strafing and dive bombing mission. The plane of 1 Lt Jack D Johnson was hit by anti-aircraft fire. He managed to bail out at an altitude of 150 feet, when his plane was on fire. The plane crashed and exploded.
At first Lt Johnson was reported as MIA. Afterwards as POW imprisoned in Germany.
