His story: On January 25, 1945, Tec5 Hugh F McHugh was with 23rd Armored Infantry Batallion of the 7th Armored Division which moved into Wallerode, Belgium to clean out the village. He had dropped his pen while making notes about a photo he had just taken and went back to retrieve it. While he was gone, leading troops came into contact with German snipers. He returned to his position and began photographing again, unaware of the sniper contact. When he stood up from the protection of a farm building and a disabled German Panzer to get same shots, his buddies yelled at him to get down, but because of his poor hearing he failed to hear their warning. He was shot through the head and killed instantly.
