According to a testimony of his best friend, Don Saunders, he was killed near a big house near Trois Ponts where his unit made many German prisoners without a single shot. In the cellar of this house, there was a German wounded radio operator that Don took out of the house. George was killed in the fields next to this house from suffering a gun shot wound in the abdomen.
