His story: Pfc Ewing E Fidler entered the service on July 27, 1943 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In December 1944 Pvt Fidler wrote his parents that he was living in fox holes in Germany, with snow more than one foot deep everywhere. On March 8, previously reported Missing in Action, he was recorded as Killed in Action. After the war, the Army deemed his remains unrecoverable.
On June 1, 2001 his remains were recovered by two Belgians who were part of the MIA project. He had spent 57 years as missing but not forgotten.
On June 8, 2002, Pfc Ewing was brought back by his brother to Ada, Oklahoma, where he was buried beside his Mom and Dad at Rosedale Cemetery.
