His storyAircraft Republic THUNDERBOLT type P-47D-28-RE #44-19799, took off from Saint-Dizier, France on December 30, 1944.
As White Flight reached a position 3 to 5 miles North of the town Luxembourg, German ground gunners opened fire with light FLAK. White #2, Lt Loesch’s plane was hit when he went into a 40 degree dive heading southwest. Still retaining directional control of the plane he was headed for an open field. 2Lt Charles M Loesch didn’t manage to bail out, crashed with his plane, which was burning in some trees on a hill beyond the open field.
