His story: On December 20, 1944, the unit of 1 Lt Donald D Brownell was closed in on the high grounds in the vicinity of the Schönberg-Radscheid road on the Belgian-German border. He was sent on a reconnaissance patrol to search a way out when he was severely wounded. He was taken prisoner and died of his wounds.
According to German records he died on December 21, 1944.
